About Our Company

PlasmaCare’s core business is the collection of source plasma used in the development of medicines for treating life-threatening diseases and severe medical conditions, including bleeding disorders, immune system deficiencies, shock and severe burns.

We are located throughout the northeastern and midwestern United States. As one of the oldest companies in the collections industry, we have a solid track record regarding compliance, quality, safety and innovation.

We strive to instill an entrepreneurial spirit focused around growth in each of our business units. We look for growth in our people, our position, the industry, our quality safety program and our overall business. Our leadership teams are core to our success and are the central focus of our activities through this involvement and leadership.

This philosophy of improvements has led us to attain double-digit growth on a five-year average. During this time, we implemented a new training system, installed a new quality management system and upgraded our business software and engineering process while maintaining our FDA and European certification.

We are an aggressive company with aggressive goals in the areas of quality, safety and business growth.

History

PlasmaCare is one of the oldest source plasma collection companies in the plasmapheresis industry, and has a strong record of innovation and cutting-edge technological and process improvements. PlasmaCare was originally started by Dr. Austin Stough after he performed the initial investigational studies for Cutter Laboratories (later Bayer Corporation) in the 1960s. The first center opened in Birmingham, Alabama in 1968. It was one of the first commercial plasma collection operations in the United States and is still in operation today.

We have always been a company that prides itself in family-oriented leadership. After Dr. Stough died, the company was run by his wife Betty, then his brother-in-law Bob, and his son Michael, who focused on growth and expansion. This tradition continues with our parent company Grifols, a company that has been a part of the Grifols family for generations.

PlasmaCare was purchased by Grifols in March 2006 to help ensure that their fractionation plants’ production capacity needs were met. Grifols’ leaders saw PlasmaCare’s efficient operations, qualified training program and growth potential as an asset. We officially became PlasmaCare, Inc. as of January 1, 2007. Grifols currently operates over 70 plasma donation centers throughout the US.
